Five Things To Do in Mission Beach
Destination weddings always make for the best excuse to vacation for guests. This past weekend was my first weekend in awhile not working a wedding and playing the role of wedding guest. So naturally, we headed down a few days earlier to get some real vacation time in. Here are my top 5 things to do in Mission Beach!
Morning walks along the beach
When your Airbnb is only a 5 minute walk to the beach, there is really no excuse not to wake up and spend some quality time strolling along the beach letting the water roll over your feet. This is also prime shell searching time.
I found my first ever sand dollar strolling the beach early one morning, and after spending countless summers as a child searching for one, this felt like sweet, sweet victory. Don't tell my husband that I found it -- he insists I wouldn't have seen it with out him.
Drinks + Ocean views
After we dropped our bags off at our Airbnb, we ended up heading to Draft in South Mission Beach where I enjoyed their Spicy Rattlerita. It was SO good and brought back all my childhood memories of enjoying endless amounts of Mexican candy. I definitely give this place two thumbs up -- it was so good we went back again during our visit!
Our second night there we joined our friends on a booze cruise from the Catamaran Resort to the Bahia Resort -- accomplishing my goal of drinking on a boat (something I strive for whenever traveling).
Food Goals: Cheesy Express
I hit the jackpot when I stumbled across this gem, which was conveniently located a few feet from our Airbnb! Cheesy Express not only fulfilled my grilled cheese dreams, but also combined two of my favorite foods into one: grilled cheese and Mac & cheese (and some BBQ pulled pork as a bonus) in their BBQ & Mac Melt.
I HIGHLY recommend this place, because not only did my favorite foods get together to make the most amazing meal, they also carried Mumdeez Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches. If you know me, you know that french macarons are one of the keys to my heart.
We started beach day by grabbing some brunch at The Mission (which is strangely very similar to Sin of Cortez in Chico) before heading to the beach. On our way over, we rented a couple boogie boards and hit the sand running. Nothing like catching some waves (and getting knocked out by a few).
Matcha + Coffee Heaven
Oh. My. God. I found the holy grail to enjoying Matcha: Better Buzz! They have this blended Matcha drink which includes their signature Vanilla powder and it is just the most heavenly drink I have ever tasted. It was so good, I went back more than once.
On top of that, they have this coffee drink, which is so perfectly called the Best Drink Ever. It is amazing, which I wasn't surprised. The inside was adorable and all my Instagram dreams were made. ps. you can order their Vanilla powder online -- it's totally worth it.
All in all: I can't wait for my next San Diego adventure! What's your go-to San Diego spot?
